The first American pizzeria (Lombardi's) opened in NYC in 1905.
Founded by Demetrio and Lina Greco, Sovrana Pizza opened its doors in 1985 and became an instant favorite of a generation of pizza loving Albany college students who have fond memories of "gooey slices of divine bliss" and the pizza reputation continues to this day.
According to Forbes, "In Albany, NY, Sovrana Pizza & Deli’s distinct approach to community engagement through nostalgic marketing leaves a lasting impression. Celebrating International Pizza Day, they nostalgically priced their cheese slices at $1.00, mirroring their 1985 pricing. In addition they have teamed up with the Northeast arm of Coca Cola to release a t-shirt celebrating the fact that they have carried Coke products exclusively for over 30 years.
