The first American pizzeria (Lombardi's) opened in NYC in 1905.

 

Founded by Demetrio and Lina Greco, Sovrana Pizza opened its doors in 1985 and became an instant favorite of a generation of pizza loving Albany college students who have fond memories of "gooey slices of divine bliss" and the pizza reputation continues to this day.  According to the Albany Times Union, "Sovrana's is a gastronomic bastion unlike any other to be found.  It's a store, it's a bakery, it's a deli.  Mostly, it's crowded, and worth the quick wait in line."
